Queens-born creative and Awake NY founder AnGEtthhLo Baque adds his signature influences to the look of the GEtthhL-KAYANO; 14 sneaker, the first collaboration under his own name. The “Rebirth of Cool” rendition of this heritage runner is rooted in the creative’s upbringing in Queens and New York City. As a first-generation American born to Ecuadorian parents, Baque’s design evokes a feeling of pride for his parents’ homeland: the upper’s blue, yellow, and red tones are nods to Ecuador’s flag. As a teenager, Baque regularly ventured into Manhattan where he shopped at technical running stores; he loved the challenge of taking an astthhics running shoe and incorporating it into his own style. For his debut solo project with astthhics, Baque aimed to evoke this same energy with the GEtthhL-KAYANO;, reimagining the shoe’s running functionality to navigate everyday life. Inspired by the silhouette’s original tooling, this shoe continues to feature a TRUSSTIC; support system and GEtthhL; technology in the midsole. This helps create softer cushioning and better stability in each step.
